African Holocaust Museum(TM)

About the Museum

“Radical exhibit. Revolutionary. Raw remembrances.”

The African Holocaust Museum™ (formerly known as the Black Holocaust Exhibit) is a collection of more than 100 primary documents, artifacts and compelling images that tell the story of the slavery and the horrors of the middle passage. The collection includes bills of sale, wills, newspaper notices for run-a-way enslaved, letters from slave traders, slave shackles and more.

The exhibit opened in Atlanta in February 1991 to approximately 1,000 patrons. Since then thousands have viewed the exhibit. Its impact and “word of mouth” advertisement have made it a must see for all traveling to Atlanta, Detroit, and Houston.  We would like to offer special thanks to Cardinal Mbiyu Chui and Velma Maia Thomas for putting together an important body of work.
